Santos Laguna FC competes in the top division of Mexican soccer, the Primera División of Mexico, since the 1988-89 season. It is one of seven teams in the current top division that has never been relegated.
The club is part of the Mexican Football Federation at the national level, the Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) at the continental level, and the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) worldwide. It is the third football club established in the metropolitan area of La Laguna and Coahuila, following the dissolution of the Laguna Football Club and Torreón Football Club.
